How Do Men Feel About Greeting Cards?
With the ubiquity of the internet attitudes toward greeting cards have changed. Selecting a gif or vid, entering an email (or tagging a social media ID), and clicking Send have usurped, but not completely taken the place of, going to a store, purchasing a card, purchasing postage and mailing that card (not to mention writing a message and signing). Lots of work! It may be all that work is why some men appreciate the effort taken to send a greeting card. Out of date, quaint, archaic, or nostalgic, sentimental, traditional? Attitudes to the greeting card can go either way.
Make Something Special Even More So
If a man appreciates the effort to send a greeting card, then the effort to customize will really be appreciated. A card with his name printed in the text, or even a photocard says a great deal about the sender as well as the recipient. Like the “quaint” greeting card itself, the time and expense of creating a custom card can have meaning beyond “click Send”. Further, customizing, whether just by name, or a text reference or visual reference to something in common, be it a place, activity, event, or a mutually loved individual, is an even greater personal touch.
In Person Versus Mailed
In general men seem to appreciate the mailed card more. Taking the time over great distance can show thought when out-of-sight. A modern attitude of why go through so much trouble for a card given in person seems to prevail. Men like a fuss, but not too much fuss. The thought of someone going through a hassle for something like a card, may make any man feel a little uncomfortable.
That Personal Holiday
No holiday is more personal than the birthday. Most men state that personalized birthday cards can be the greatest thrill because there’s no question who it was made for and just for him. Now the thought of customizing, the thought of someone on their particular day combine for a very special appreciation. The custom birthday card may be the most particular special card out there, and he will know it.
The occasional hassle and the special attention can make men comfortable and interested in the greeting card. Don’t go overboard and men will likely welcome the gesture a greeting card represents.
