While attributed to Thanksgiving episodes of the television show Friends, the term Friendsgiving was first noticed making the rounds of the internet in 2007. Originally a Thanksgiving where those who couldn’t afford to go to the annual family gathering celebrated the holiday with local friends, it has morphed into its own day, celebrated by some the day before or after Thanksgiving, by others sometime in the month of November. Friends and even family attend, and the rules governing it are far looser than traditional Turkey Day.

What’s truly notable about Friendsgiving is Thanksgiving Day has become Thanksgiving season. While it hasn’t replaced the national holiday, it has taken root as a time for friends during the holidays.

Do We Have A Card For That?

While there are Friendsgiving cards, Happy Thanksgiving cards are still acceptable and appreciated when given on the new holiday. Thanksgiving greeting cards on Friendsgiving recognize the foundation of the day and what the celebration is really about; being thankful for the friendships that make life worth living.
