A law firm's holiday card should thank clients and colleagues for their trust, wish them a peaceful season, and close warmly, in two or three sentences. Keep it to a greeting, with no mention of matters, results or services, so the card reads as a thank-you and not an advertisement.
Many people on a firm's list hired you during a hard stretch, so a calm, warm tone works better than a cheerful sales voice. Below are messages you can use as written, grouped by who's getting the card.

- Thank you for the trust you placed in our firm this year. Wishing you a peaceful holiday season and a happy new year.
- It is a privilege to represent you. Season's greetings from all of us at [Firm Name].
- With gratitude for your confidence in us, we wish you and your family a joyful holiday season.
- Thank you for allowing us to serve you this year. We wish you rest, health and good things in 2027.
For clients who had a hard year
Acknowledge the year gently without naming what happened. If you're not sure how a client is doing, send your standard message.
- We know this year asked a great deal of you. We hope the holidays bring you rest and a brighter year ahead.
- It was an honor to stand with you this year. Wishing you peace this holiday season.
For referring attorneys and professionals
- Thank you for your confidence in our firm and for every referral this year. We take good care of the people you send us. Happy holidays.
- We value our professional relationship more each year. Best wishes for the holidays and a successful 2027.
- Season's greetings to you and your colleagues. We look forward to working together in the new year.
Lighter lines
Legal humor works with clients and colleagues who know you well. Keep it to one line, or let the card do the joking: our funny legal Christmas cards carry the joke on the front so the message inside can stay simple.
- Motion to enjoy the holidays: granted.
- Wishing you a holiday season with no objections.
- Here's to a new year with fewer deadlines and more time off.
Christmas or holiday wording?
Season's greetings is a long-standing choice for law firms. If you don't know that everyone on your list celebrates Christmas, "happy holidays" or "season's greetings" is the safe choice. If your community sends Christmas cards, "Merry Christmas" is fine. Our guide on what to write in a business holiday card has more options for both.
Keep it a greeting
Leave out practice areas, case results and anything that asks for business. A card that only thanks and greets doesn't read as advertising. If your firm reviews outgoing marketing, send the message through that review as you normally would.
What to leave out
- Case results, practice areas and new services.
- Anything about a client's matter.
- Requests for referrals or reviews.
- Billing reminders.
Consider a Thanksgiving card
Some firms send Thanksgiving cards for law firms instead, so the card arrives before the December rush. A Thanksgiving message can lean on gratitude: This Thanksgiving, we're grateful for the trust of clients like you. Wishing you a peaceful holiday with the people you love.
A line about your charity
Each year, we donate at least 10% of net proceeds from greeting card sales to charity. When you customize your card, you pick any IRS-recognized 501(c)(3). Firms often name a legal aid or community charity in the card: This year, our holiday cards support [Charity Name].
Save time on the mailing
If you're sending to 100 or more clients, we can print, address and mail your holiday cards for you. Every envelope is addressed with a real ballpoint pen and mailed by the date you choose. We collect names and mailing addresses only, never market to your list, and delete it 90 days after mailing. It costs $2.25 to $4.75 per recipient before postage, with larger mailings at the low end. Postage is USPS First-Class at cost.
When to send
Aim for your cards to arrive in the first two weeks of December. Our guide on when to send business holiday cards has the mail-by dates.
